Conversation of football fans...

Posted by Chestnut Monday, July 03, 2006.
Heard in a café in Paris...

Friend - "You follow France on the football cup !"
Sceptic - "Nah, they already lost for me..."
Friend - "They did ? Well... quite a lively bunch for a lost team".
Sceptic - "Why ? They got away with the qualifications ?"
Friend - "Sure they did... was apparently hard but they did."
Sceptic - "Pff... they won't beat Spain... youngster with lots of energy."
Friend - "mmm... France beated Spain !"
Sceptic - "Yea right..."
Friend - "Yup they did."
Sceptic - "And who was after Spain ?"
Friend - "Brazil..."
Sceptic - "Ah see... they won't go any further."
Friend - "Actually............ they did. They won over Brazil."
Sceptic - "Please stop your sick jokes..."
Friend - "Brazil was not at their best that night I admit but they were still good."

(Some people around turning their heads confirming)

- "They got them man"
- "Where were you Saturday... didn't you heard ?"

Sceptic - "So... you are all telling me that France won over Brazil, right ?"
Friend - "Yup !"

(Silence)

Sceptic, joined by the friend and soon by the others around cheering with their beers at 31 degrees...

- "ALLEZ LES BLEUS - ALLEZ LES BLEUS..."

Note: You never know....... These old timers might actually get to the end... and win. But... even if they don't. Well... The magic was back !

ZERO Tolerance = Intolerance

Posted by Chestnut Friday, May 26, 2006.
This is for the damn idiot who gave a 534$ fine to my canadian lawyer because he was smoking in his office. Note that the 534$ was calculated based on how many gigs he had in his ashtrays.
To the same idiot who came back a few weeks later and gave ANOTHER fine because there was an ashtray in a closet that wasn't clean enough for his tasted (wanna lick ?).
And lastly, to the woman who denounced my friend to the anti-tobacco militia (couldn't find better to describe these twats)...

GO TO HELL

Ah... feels better now...

Note: To whoever thinks this has nothing to do with PostNuke....... hey... wow.... YOU ARE RIGHT...... but if you think about lecturing me on what I put on my site.... well....... go to hell too... ;-)

Le CPE

Posted by Chestnut Saturday, April 08, 2006.
Bon...

Vous me réveillerez d'accord ?

Political blog ? No way... but

Posted by Chestnut Friday, September 09, 2005.
While pnConcept is not a political blog, I take the right I have (since in the country I live, I still have that right) to express my opinion that I will try to do it while still sticking to facts.

I am doing this because someone made it clear in a comment in the last article that having a different opinion was enough to loose his respect. It is kind of a strange way to demonstrate the fate one can have in his own Consitution, the respect of the opinions of others, etc.

Yes it's a shame... but it would also be a shame to not stick to my beliefs if I were to think they are the right things to believe in.

See the read more for the rest.

Hey Bush my little monkey...

You have a nice BIG BIG Ranch... why don't you let New Orleans people come live there for awhile... Maybe you could put your Cowboy gears and play guitar around a firecamp to try to cheer them up.

.... Sheesh... what am I saying... it would look sooo like usa back in the 18th century... know what I mean ?

My sympathy to all New Orleans people suffering not only from Katrina.......... but also suffering from the incredible stupidity of their leaders.

There is no excuse for that.

PostNuke-France DNS problem

Posted by Chestnut Friday, September 02, 2005.

Note: Tout devrait rentrer dans l'ordre demain matin ! ;)

ArgSense

Posted by Chestnut Friday, June 17, 2005.
Well well well done Mister GG...

Some probably noticed that I added some littles ads this week and 2 days ago, the search field. Well, tonight I received this charming notice from the big one that my argsense account was deativated for fraudulent clicks... Yea right !

To all of you who wants to give it a shot, (note the paradoxal case) do not EVER click on your own ads (even if for once, you see an ad that makes you drooling) and do not EVER use your own search field. one of the (apparent) reasons not to do so is that if the big GG detects that you are on the same IP or (something like that) you connect to your argsense account... BOOM....

You know the drill, you register, you install the cute little Firefox plugin and while drinking a coffee, you tell one or 2 co-workers : "Yea, I added this thing on my site... it works well apparently". Working in this company with around 30 computers on the same network and IPs and the next minute, a funny dude use the site like a madman.

So you have been warned. Do not click on your own ads... and do not use the search field with any computer that you used to enter your argsense account. They are watching you and have no remorse as a quick search on the net will gives you many results that faced the same situation.

Otherwise... BOOM ! Bye bye !
So no ArgSense for me anymore...
And Thanks a lot Dave ! you owe me a beer for that one.

The anti-table trend !

Posted by Chestnut Monday, June 13, 2005.
As I try to get better in my html and php skills, (and although I failed to apply the knowledge I gain from the trip on all my work), I do observe the new trends that makes the net what it is today.

Lately and it might be a Firefox consequence, the big new trend is the coding standards of the W3C... wich is of course, a big plus. But there is some bias opinions about the style we should apply and what html tags must be in use.

I felt the urge to answer to what I can compare as an Anti-Mac or Anti-PC attitude, the anti-TABLE attitude.

The table tag was introduce in html 3 (as far as I could dig) and was overused in the past and still is today as a design "fix" if I can say it that way.

Today, we must send back the table tag to its real purpose : Showing tabular data.

It is true that the div is the way to go... for design. But considering the table tag as the devil is a big misconception of html. So when you have someone trying to sell the idea to remove all table tags from your html, don't forget that he might be right for your design... but not necessarily for the content you are showing.

For my own crazy untrue "I have nothing to do when I'm at work" gig, I build a little simple mod showing some links to examples of css design I found really nice and simple. And you will probably have a good guess if you think the first example is... a table.

So click here NOW... I SAID NOW !!!!!

Note: Edit (June 14) : I added a Drop down menu by Alsacréation. ;)

Can't buy me love...

Posted by Chestnut Sunday, June 05, 2005.
... that is already been taken care of.

But on the coding side, I accepted to take over the fork and porting to the pnRender the phPro module. Some generous people are building a little pot and if you want to participate, check [ here ].

You can always make this some kind of a telethon. I have some shopping to do.

The new name (at least for now) will be pnCareers and the original phPro mod is currently in my cvs and I already took a few steps. [ phPro cvs ]

Do not checkout the module as I already done some work in it and it's probably broken as I removed one table already.

C !

Well... we can see the consequences of not having much time to be in front of the computer to code nice little PostNuke mods. Some time ago, I expressed my idea to do a sort of pncPayPal suite.

You can see the original news [ HERE ].

Basically, it was made of a pncIPN that would act as a Paypal IPN receiver that would give the admin the possibility to redirect the information to X module based on the type of transaction...

Donation -> pncPaypal (temporary name)
Subscription -> pncPPMembership (again, this is a temporary name).
etc...

pncIPN was to be free or given with the others but the others were to be 5€ each. Cheap huh ?

The problem ? Well not much... aside the fact that you can have some sort of all that with the MirageLab LabModules suite. Hum... (I just made that one up )... something like that.

Now, I never tried Miragelab mods, and don't intend to do. Not because it is bad, as I said, never tried it. But because I don't need it.
But since I don't like much reinventing the wheel...

Should I go on with my plans... or not ? My objectives was to work on that after releasing the pnGroups 2.0... so it was in my plans anyway.

What I can probably say it's that the Labmods seems a little old and it's author doesn't look very active... at least these days.

So... Why not ask ?..

Should I do it ?.. or not ? Is it a need... or not ?

PostNuke-France is taking a little break.

Posted by Chestnut Friday, May 27, 2005.
For people who could take this too seriously or the wrong way (à la maxdev april's fool), I only closed PostNuke-France.org for a little break...

Please do not ask question about it... the message on the front page is clear, it is temporary.

Pour les Francophones, reportez-vous au titre du message (http://www.postnuke-france.org), l'évidence est là et soulignée, alors ne vous faîtes pas de cinoche et merci de ne pas poser de questions inutiles.

Crap crap crap... couldn't find a single friggin reservation left for the Star Wars III tonight at midnight...

Yup, in France, we have it tonight ...

Bah ! ... couldn't get a place for tonight but I'll try my chance for tomorrow...

To my own sadistic pleasure, I added a little block to the left with some of the nicest quotes of the original (Most of it) trilogy.

one that is the most powerful of all and that should be written in school books is also one of the shortest...

Yoda : Wars does not make one Great !

If every Presidents, Prime Ministers, Dictators, etc could reach to the fully extent of this simple phrase...

pnConcept NOT smoke-free area...

Posted by Chestnut Tuesday, January 11, 2005.
Hello Italian dudes and Dudettes...

Just wanted to remind you that pnConcept is and will ALWAYS be a non-smoke-free area...

By the way, you might want to ask why your government made illegal smoking in pubs and bars while children can buy cigarettes from the machines on the street in plain day (those machine were apparently only on during the night in the past)...

Kind of a strange way to do things don't you think ?

As a very wise Italian man said in the news I saw... "DAMMIT, let me choose the way I die !"

pnConcept not smoke-free

Note: P.S. : I do NOT promote smoking... I promote the liberty of CHOICE !

Those who believe, please say a prayer
Those who can help, please give a hand
Those who can give, please share...

Wouhou... 200 DL = 18€

Posted by Chestnut Wednesday, December 08, 2004.
Hey guys... you knew it huh? Back in my mind, part of my pncPayPal release idea was to test something... You didn't know?...

Many people were wondering why it is almost impossible to find a free PayPal solution... I was saying that it wasn't necessarily because a dev didn't want to give something for free while on the other side, the other is making money with.

Maybe I should've wait for 500 donwloads but anyway... I don't think it would change much.

I was wrong.

200 downloads (people who all have a paypal account for sure)... 18.00€... wouhou what a blast. (thanks EventOnline )

I'm not complaining, be sure of that... I'm not even speaking about the people who came by and asked questions, or asked for support. They were there... They have an existence. That they did not give anything is not even coming to my mind.

But now you have your answer about why no dev is drooling to give for free something like this...

200 downloads... 18.00€... wouhou... ha ha ha... oh how my girl will love her 18€ Christmas present.

Now don't go and take that in the way "Ouuain... Chestnut is saying that I'm cheap and now he cries because he got no money for his pityful PayPal mod... ouainnn"...

Told you... I'm not complaining for me... In some way, I don't care much... I am not in a dramatic need of money. No I'm not rich... not at all... But I'm not that poor as to cry because nobody is using that DONATE LINK... It sure would've helped... maybe... dunno... aw heck.

I am answering the old question: Why no one wants to make a PayPal mod for free for me...

Now when I'll sell my 5€ mods... do you think the proportion will be the same? Wouhahaha...

Hey guys... Don't go mad (or too mad)... I'm only playing with you...

C !

Note: Woha... People... look at 3DTheory's points... mmm he he

The 11th day of September

Posted by Chestnut Saturday, September 11, 2004.

For most people, there is always a shocking image that not only made them gaze at the sky and wonder why it happened...

They were also afraid... or filled with a unmeasurable sadness and despair.

For some, it was the assination of J.F.K., for others the Rwanda's Genocide, the elders (and even yougster) have countless wars to remember and for others... the guy next door that a dealer decided to eliminate in front of them.

We can be shocked by many things... but this 11th day of September... and without ever minimizing what could have been or still can be the horrors elsewhere in the world.

This day shook the ground under our "civilized" feet.

To the point that even seeing it again in a movie like in "The Barbarian Invasions"... brings the memory of how we felt that day.

Someone told me the other day : "The 2 most incredible things I saw and lived in my life (aside what made my personal life incredible so far), was the first man on the moon and September 11th".

I wasn't born to see the first man on the moon... But I can say that I join him for his second choice.

-----------

For the families, the friends and all who lost someone loved in this event, it is a day to remember them. They have 364 other days to try to understand.

For us who didn't lost someone in this event, we will always have reasons to explain : Religion, fanatism, politics, madness, etc.

But we must not forget that whatever the reason was... it was still humans behind all of it.

Humans...

Enough to bring the question : Does Mankind really have a future?

Or are we bound to destroy ourselves.

------------------

New Yorkers, have a good commemorative day... filled with the hope that what made such day...

... never comes again.

F. Chestnut ! D.

Note: And a special thought to all all who volonteered that day and the days after to help in any way they could... See in the comments someone talking about it with the pain still in his heart.

Where one takes pride...

pnDEV... houla ! They got me !

Posted by Chestnut Sunday, May 23, 2004.

Maybe some of you saw a strange line in this article on the official site :
[ HERE ]

Did you see it ?

Yup... I'm a pnDev now...

Well... What can I say ? Thanks for trusting me !

I've been invited on the team. Someone thought that I would be a good asset (yea sure he he !... joking).

My task (at least the first one) is quite easy to guess... Parts of the pncUserHack are already in the 0.8 cvs thanks to Mark West, Class007 and others. Incredible job so far.

I'll try to see if we can go to the end of it and work this user, registration thing in the big picture.

So I'm just making this note here to say to you all, friends and detractors that I will do my best to do whatever I can within my possibilities to do the best work I've ever made.

Have Fun !

CESARIA EVORA In Concert !

Posted by Chestnut Tuesday, April 06, 2004.
Hey... went to see Cesaria Evora in Concert in Paris tonight...

Really good... although the saxophonist was the only musician who seemed to think his show was good (he was the only one having a groove and smiling like he was loving his job), the others staying as static as the old Lady. But the voice was still there.
