Hiya (hope this is the right place to post)

I'm hoping someone can help me ... I was sent here from http://forums.postnuke.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=172015#172015 who reckons what I need is possible but I don't seem to be able to find any information so I am posting here ....

I need a site where the registration process gives the option to belong to different User Groups

ie .. they sign up with name and email and will belong to usergroup1 or usergroup2 or usergroup3 etc

Is this possible?

Would also need to assign certain people to two or more user groups

Is this possible?

Would appreciate any help available.

Annie

Hi Annie,

If you speak of the pnGroups, the pnGroups gives the admin to define groups as Public, Private (moderate) or core.

The public type let users register to a specific group without admin approval
The private type let users register to a specific group WITH admin approval - admin can reject the registration.

Core - admin viewable only (like group 1 = Users, 2 = Admin)... users don't see them.

There is actually nothing to give the user to register on a PN website and automatically be included in a X group aside the default one defined in your settings.

Unfortunatly though... the pnGroups is 0.760 required... so you must use it on the last RC4 or wait for the final PN 0.760 to be released.

Hiya

Thanks so much for the information .. nice to know that its possible.

Now considering I've never used a CMS before I need instructions....

Do I install postnuke first and pngroups is an addon or is pngroups a stand alone?

Help would definately be appreciated !!

You will have to explore and make your way through PostNuke and you will need some time.

Various documentations are available either in the manual.txt in the PostNuke zip and online on

http://docs.postnuke.com

http://pluginsoft.com/docs/pnAdministratorGuide/pnAdministratorGuide.html
http://www.pnaddons.com/pnMyGuide/

The PostNuke forums will be your main source of information in case of problems... (You already know the link).

Enjoy !
Wink

Oh... and for the answer, yes, you first install PostNuke, then the pnGroups as it is a module for PostNuke.

PostNuke must be installed and the pnGroups must be into postnukefolder/modules
