Remember the Boom generated by GMAIL?
Something like that would be nice. People likes exclusivity and at some CMS like this would be excellent.
Can that be posibble to be added?
As the groups system, that allows to select your partners or the people on your team for a specific purpose. Literature, Fights, War or World peace seekers.
As I see and added to the PnUserpoints, If I am a user, and in the time i still been a user, may be I recomend the site to a friend, that friend`s username will be on MY LIST, and the Users he or she recomends will be on my list too. Is the PnUserpoints apply, may be we can obtain 10 points for each registered user directly by me, and 1 point for every one not directly added to the CMS.
Some poeple in different forums, have the oppinion of that my proposal even for a luggin or a module will keep away people from CMS systems, but people are more than Cats, curious by narure, and they like that kind of systems, You will get in by an Invitation Only.

I can understand the little fear as more and more are aiming at the easiest ways while on the other side, they want moderation, catpchas, etc,etc...
People say this and that and don't agree with what they want. 
As for an invitation feature, it's not on a immediate plan and I doubt that it will soon. But now that 0.760 is closed at last, we'll discuss more and more about what we will put in the 0.8 and I personnaly aim for an easier way to manage users.
Like a possibility to select users and keep this selection for an action to do on them or things like that.
The hooks will become a major part of the system and hooks can achieve a lot of things like telling the system and all modules listening to them what is the action you made.
So for example, if a user register, a specific hook could check in a X table if this username was saved (like the user who invited him) and do an action when he finds it. Adding points to the referant or sending an email that his little friend registered...
That kind of things.
