FreeMind and its use in Wikka

FreeMind is a premier free mind-mapping software written in Java.

Mindmap example

FreeMind maps can be included in Wikka pages.
Note: Java 1.4.X must be installed to view maps.

Adding mindmaps in Wikka pages

There are two options for including mindmaps:

1. Linking to a Freemind map
See Wikka in action:
~-Linking to a mindmap quicktime icon

Place a link to a FreeMind map on a wiki page, for example:
http://yourdomain.com/freemind/freemind.mm
No special formatting is necessary.
See: Inline Map Example.

2. Embedding a Freemind map
See Wikka in action:
~-Embedding a mindmap quicktime icon

Paste the FreeMind data directly into a wiki page:
- Open a FreeMind file with a text editor.
- Select all, and copy the data.
- Browse to your Wikka site and paste the Freemind data into a page.
See Embedded Map Example.

The next stage of development will be to plan for actions that generate FreeMind data

Not directly related to Wikka, but visit FreeMindKeyboardShortcuts for a list of keyboard shortcuts that can be used when editing maps.

Impact

FreeMind integration has become one of the most appreciated features of Wikka by adepts of mindmapping techniques (see IndependentWikkaReviews).
Wikka's code has been implemented by other wiki engines like Xwiki.
